For David Wilcox, all roads have led him to where he wanted to be. All the songs, all the shows, all the miles, all the struggles and triumphs and breakthroughs, have brought him here, to this particular spot, to this fine Vista. The result is a joyous, musically diverse album that fully combines his deeply observant lyrical touch with music that moves the feet as well as the soul. Co-produced with Ben Wisch, VISTA was recorded at home and mixed in Manhattan. It has the heart of an acoustic singer-songwriter record and the soul of a band of friends that have been playing together for years. "It's the groove these songs have that sets them apart from my other recordings," Wilcox says, "this is the soundtrack of how my life feels lately." For his new album, David Wilcox recruited a small band of friends and musical favorites and in so doing, created an album that moves along a solid groove and into a more animated place than his previous recordings. This is perhaps his most joyous, musically diverse and wide ranging in a career that includes 12 acclaimed albums and a rabidly faithful following. Wilcox wrote or co-wrote 14 of the 15 songs, with the exception being a cover taken from the album of his friend J.D. Martin Wayne Kirkpatrick.
The rhythm section features Craig Young (bass) and Ted Ray(drums). Wilcox, who is generally regarded a "guitarists' guitarist", also enlisted the help of guitarists Jared Tyler Duke Levine, cellist Stephanie Winters and for vocal support, his wife Nance Pettit, Jan Garrett, and Ginny Owens.
